XPeng expanding dealer network after TrueEV split

XPeng is moving forward with selling cars to Australians after a complex end to its arrangement with former distributor TrueEV, detailing plans for an expanded dealership and service network.

The now-factory-imported Chinese EV specialist has revealed its Australian showroom network will expand to 66, across all states and territories except Tasmania, by the end of the year.

It also plans to have seven dealerships up and running in New Zealand by that time.

While XPeng’s network is not as large as its key EV rivals, it will have been established in about nine months, rather than four years for the 150 locations BYD hopes to have open in Australia by the end of this year.

XPeng, which currently sells the G6 SUV and X9 people mover in Australia, says it plans to support all customers, including those who purchased vehicles under TrueEV.

XPeng ANZ says its customer-service team has already “processed” more than 1400 enquiries, and “resolved” 250 cases from owners who were promised, but never received promotional offers promised by TrueEV.

These include a $5000 cashback, a 10-year extended warranty, and free scheduled servicing, which were marketed by TrueEV at various points to stimulate sales.

Customers are encouraged to contact the brand’s local office directly about any undelivered promotions promised by TrueEV, and XPeng ANZ says “each case will be reviewed individually”.

XPeng customers who purchased under TrueEV can have their base five-year warranty extended to seven years and unlimited kilometres, which is added to the original term, rather than reset.

A seven-year warranty has been offered to new XPeng customers who have purchased from the factory distributor since it commenced sales on 1 June 2026.

The XPeng ANZ distributor’s aftersales program covers:

  • Seven-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty for private buyers, or seven years/160,000km for commercial use
  • Eight-year/160,000km warranty on the battery, Battery Management System (BMS), drive motor, and Intelligent Power Unit
  • Five-year/unlimited-kilometre paint warranty
  • Seven-year/unlimited-kilometre anti-corrosion and anti-rust warranty

XPeng recently opened orders for the L03 small-to-mid-size SUV, and unveiled the G9L large SUV, both offered with a choice of electric or range-extender ‘hybrid’ power.

The XPeng L03 is priced from $41,900 before on-road costs, with deliveries expected before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the larger G9L has not yet had its price or specifications confirmed, but details are due before the end of the year, ahead of deliveries from early 2027.
